So the rear shocks were replaced in my car by the previous owner. My guess is that the shop just wrenched the piss out of the nuts that hold the seat back in place; when I went back there with my 10mm socket, all I wound up doing was further rounding the nut. Has anyone dealt with this before? Will a standard rounded nut extracting socket work? (I can't be sure, but the nut feels like it's made of plastic....)

I had the same pronlem with mine, I had to use a 9mm socket and bang it on there then remove, worked okay!
