Default Radio display on Check Control

While this has been discussed a few times before I thought I would bring it up again and ask if anyone who has not had this feature in the past has gotten it to work.

While browsing today my interest was drawn back to this feature after I read that all that needs to be done for this feature is to run a few wires to the cluster. After a quick look through the wiring diagrans for our cars I found that the radio needs to be connected to three pins in the clusters wiring harness but can't find the pinout for the radio side.

If any of you happen to know about this topic and would like to shed some light on it I'd love to hear your thoughts. Also, if needed, I will post the wiring diagram for the radio and cluster if that will help. I really dont even know if this is possible, but worth a try since the diagram is in all of the wiring diagrams from 93-95, which I suppose is to be expected.

BTW, I have a CD43, I would think that has something to do with the possibility of this working.

    Anyway, thanks for your input,
    Patrick

Hmm, three wires eh? probably some form of serial. it would be interesting to see what a working setup looks like through a logic analyzer, i have always wanted to use that display for other things. My radar detector and megasquirt most notably. I never saw the need for the radio display in the cluster unless you have steering wheel controls? I would think that the wiring is already in there in a 10pin or so plug, i cant remember seeing a wiring harness that didn't have it.

I have the stock tape deck but i found it is a 2 wire plug i found it somewhere under the kick panel on the radio side. i cant remember what the colors were of the radio and i have had my dash removed and replaced so idk if the location has been moved from stock but i kno for sure it is a 2 wire plug. i have a '92 525i so i kno the feature was not stock but i had the wiring in place.

Here is the wiring diagram and pinouts that I was talking about:

I am thinking that the phone harness in my car is not terminated since my mute button does not work and I do not have the phone. I believe this could also cause a problem but am not positive.

Showing the radio info on the Check Control has no practical use but it's one of those things that is cool to have anyway. Using it for a radar detector display would be neat and remember seeing a way to accomplish that but think that product was discontinued.

I spent a long time working out how the dash cluster & OBC was wired up when I put a 'digital' cluster into my 520i. I've just had a look at my scribblings and found the two 'data' lines which control the cluster display. The wire colours are white-yellow (OBC pin #3) and white-black (OBC pin #11). I don't know if there is a spare connector, but if there is, and it has these wires in it, then obviously that will connect to your radio. If anyone is aware of the data protocol then let me know - I could have some real fun with the cluster display LOL!

I wonder if only the 93-up e34's have the wiring for this feature. The chart below shows all the models that have the indentity feature (highlighted in yellow):
