A lot of US domestic cars use what's called an intake air temp sensor, and it usually looks like that. Does your car's intake plumbing sit in that area at all?
Does anyone have an idea what this is? I tried looking behind it, however due to tight space, couldn't figure out where it's hanging from. (All the lights, fogs are working correctly). It looked like that area was got melted from something. Maybe something got stuck during driving, got stuck and continued to melt that area. (Just thinking out loud)
Any ideas?

umm. Have nooo idea what that is.
It is the outside air temperature sensor. The intake air temp sensor is mounted somewhere on the intake system. But on US model E34 it is on the driver side near the fog light.Originally Posted by Bin_jammin
See that hole near the fog light? It should be mounted with the tip just behind the hole.
