Default OT: Disappearing Car Door Idea

There's a video of this in action half way down the page.

Doesn't seem safe, but cool as hell.

Why not... I think it's very cool, reminds me of the Z1... You have to admit, there's a lot of work in that concept car...

Exactly, I'd love to play with it/drive it.

I owned a Mark VIII for many years, I really enjoyed that car. I would still be driving it today if it hadn't been destroyed in an accident.

My fave part of this video is the multi-stage, transformers feel i get from the robotics.

Little hope for a "concept " car built on the ancient fox platform.
Lots of work just for the sake of being different. Did you see how high the sill is? Or what about that inside "panel". Weathersealing, forget it.
I appreciate all the effort but the result is worthless and I would wager broken by now.
The effort would have been better spent on some equally rediculous vehicle as a hummer where the builder has a chance at a customer with poor enough taste and means to pay for this.
Just reminds me of kids that put "Lamborghini" door hinges on Hondas.

The Mark VIII was not built on the Fox platform, it was built on the FN10 platform, which was a variant on the MN12 platform. The FN10 platform began in 1993 and ended in 1998. Hardly ancient. The Mark VIII also had an aluminum engine, with the block cast by Teksid in Italy, generating 290 hp from 4.6 litres, with 32 valves. Mine trapped 102 mph in the 1/4, after some minimal upgrades.

The 1993 Mustang was the last car to be built using the Fox platform. Very different platforms.
