Default Mobil 1 0W-40 No Longer Synthetic?

I found this post that says that due to a lawsuit with Castrol Europe, which BMW bought recently I hear, they can call dino based oils synthetics. So the post says Mobil 1 is changing their formula to hydrolocked Group III oils since it doesn't matter.

If it's accurate, it kind of makes me a little sad.

    hydrolocked?

i'm surpised you repeated it too, i thought you were chemical/biologically trained. that word is all you need to know about the jackassery on that page. yeah, castrol did it, mobil 1 is doing it, PP does it. if they get their product to produce the same wear patterns, or better, than before (note the approaching parity between API-SM conventional oils and synthetics), what does it really matter what they charge? mobil 1 products have possessed a kinematic viscosity on the thin side of things as far back as i remember, though I certainly wasn't alive when it came out, and you can hear it in your rear end, and see it on a hot day when the synthetic grease melts all over the place. those buffoons can say what they want to make themselves feel smart, but their mobil 1 has likely been doing the same things (in their crankcase) as it has been for the past 5+ years
