any takers anyone???
I don't really know if someone tried this already...I have a friend from the insurance company and he has a totalled in the rear and side 2003 e39 530iA...My question is.. would the m54 3.0 fit the e34?and the harness??if ever how would I get the cluster of the e34 to work since the harness of the m54 came from the e39...and lastly I don't know if the steptronic of the e39 will work for me...the local yard has a 6speed manual which they said that would fit the m50 but dose'nt know if it'll fit the m54. THe insurance guy is selling me the engine for cheap with the harness excluding the tranny and it's computer box...any thoughts guys? im really tempted since the engine only has 18,258kms. on it!
And oh my car is a '89 525i e34 m20 euro 260,000kms.
thanks

Best option would seem to me if you could keep as many of the parts surrounding the M54, including the tranny. You'd have to change the exhaust system, make sure the m54 will fit in the bay, see if the transmission fits not only the engine but also the room you E34 chassis is giving it as well as the driveshaft. Ultimatily I think it's do-able, but it will never be a comfortable swap.

I've seen an E39 M5 engine put into an E34 and there is another in London. They were BIG energy swaps. Lots and lots of work. Then lots more work. Oh, did I mention - lots of wiring adaptation, reprogramming due to different sensors, made up exhausts, and lots more work.
Here's the one I've seen:

London Mike on the same forum did the other and he has a thread on there about it too
