    Mobil 1 0W-40 !

Once you see how good it looks coming out of the sump after 8,000 kms (5,000 miles) you won't go back.

I have trouble finding 5w40. Ended up ordering LubroMoly 5w40 from BMA. It's highly recommended from a forum member so I want to see how it runs. But man it's expensive. However, we're trying to see if any vendor can set up a group buy over at bimmerforums.

The 0w-40 M1 used to be hard to find around here but its pretty much everywhere these days. I use it in both the 535i & our 525iT but I think the Shell Rotella Synth would be a good oil for the old tech M30 engine & I may try it at the next oil change.

    Default Autozone Castrol Syntec 0W-30

Special now. $25 for 5 qts and a bosch oil filter. Of course Bosch doesnt make a premium or whatever its called filter for the M60. So pick one up for one of your other vehicles instead.

Check bobistheoilguy forums for details on the 0W-30.

I tested out redline's 10w-40 for my V8, and it was a mistake. Lost horsepower and starting was a bit off. Was just too heavy. The lubri moly, redline, and amsoil 5w-40 seem to work well. But Mobile1 0w-40 is my standby. Seems the Xw number is the weight at start for the engine. And 30/40 is the viscosity at high heat. I don't know the details, since I'm not a mechanic by trade, but I do know the 10w synthetics screw up my gas mileage something aweful.

5w-40 seems to work for exotic synths. And 0w-40 works just right for the more common mobil 1 synth. Folks with V6's seem to like the 5w-30 exotic synthetics. At least the guys in my area do. Typically redline.

The mechanics on this board regularly recommend M 0w-40. And I think they are right. Unless your V8 engine is a leaking crapheap, that's the proper weight.
