Default Bay Area summer kickoff meet! Saturday 6/2/07

So, there finally seems to be reasonable interest, and I finally had a little time to throw together a plan. I want to get this thing started relatively early, as to avoid Saturday traffic, but I realize that not many here reside in the North Bay where I'm planning the drive so we'll try to meet up at 9:00AM and be on the road by 9:30. The drive, from start to finish, will be approximately 100 miles, and depending on what stops we make I would expect it to be over by 3:00PM.

    Bring with you:
    1. A two way radio - We will tune into the traditional channel 4.0 where everyone will be able to keep in contact. A necessity in case we need to make a quick emergency stop, or if a group gets lost or left behind.
    2. A plentiful portion of fossil fuel in your tank.
    3. Some food and drinks for lunch, or cash for the deli in Tomales or the burger joint at Point Reyes.
    4. Camera (optional of course)
    5. Directions or a map of the route.
    5. A good attitude

This will be a spirited drive, not a race by any means. The 5er group is generally very mature, but for meets and drives like this it must be emphasized that we need to be respectful of our fellow motorists. Accidents have been known to occur on other drives (never with 5er groups), and I'm sure we can all agree that we don't want to be classified with those 3 series nutcases, so lets keep it within our limits . We also have to make sure to keep our speeds at or under the limit in any towns or areas with lots of driveways. All in all, just use common sense and we'll all be sure to have a great time. With that said, here is the itinerary with some pictures.

    1. 9:00AM: Meet up and have some coffee and a little bite to eat. Chit chat and wait for everyone to arrive.

      Address:
      1801 Larkspur Landing Circle
      Larkspur, CA 94939

      - Meet in the parking lot as indicated by the flag below, and park on the side nearest to the road.

      __________
    2. 9:30AM: Depart for Tomales, this section of the drive should take about 50 minutes, and is 40 miles or so.

      Directions:
      1. Head west on Larkspur Landing Cir toward Victoria Way/ 0.3 mi
      2. Turn right at E Sir Francis Drake Blvd/ 0.1 mi
      3. Slight right to merge onto US-101 N toward Eureka/ 21.1 mi
      4. Exit onto Petaluma Blvd S/ 2.6 mi
      5. Turn left at Washington St/ 0.3 mi
      6. Continue on Bodega Ave/ 8.1 mi
      7. Turn left at Tomales Rd/ 1.7 mi
      8. Continue on Tomales-Petaluma Rd/ 5.4 mi
      9. Turn right at CA-1/ 0.3 mi

      Destination:
      Tomales Deli and Cafe
      27000 Highway 1
      Tomales, CA 94971

      - Find street parking at the crossroads here, take a bathroom break, pick up a sandwich and some other grub for lunch at Point Reyes.

    3. 10:45AM: Depart for Drakes Beach at Point Reyes where we will have some lunch, take some pictures, etc. This portion will be about 32 miles and take ~45 minutes.

    Directions:
    1. Head south on CA-1 toward Tomales-Petaluma Rd/ 16.8 mi
    2. Turn left to stay on CA-1/ 0.4 mi
    3. Turn right at Sir Francis Drake Blvd/ 14.1 mi
    4. Slight left at Drakes Beach Rd/ 1.6 mi

Destination: The parking lot at the end of the road. There is a burger place here that has pretty good food. We can hang out here for a while, and hopefully the weather will be good and we can hang out on the beach and such.

-If others want, we can head back to Sir Francis Drake Blvd and continue the last few miles to the lighthouse. It's really cool out there, pending weather of course.

    ____________
    4. 1:00PM: Depart southwards back towards 101. For those with time, we could stop in the Marin Headlands to take some pictures above Golden Gate Bridge and next to some of the old bunkers.

    Directions:
    1. Head north on Drakes Beach Rd toward Sir Francis Drake Blvd 1.6 mi
    2. Slight right at Sir Francis Drake Blvd 13.4 mi
    3. Slight right at Bear Valley Rd 2.3 mi
    4. Turn right at CA-1 25.9 mi
    5. Turn right to stay on CA-1 0.2 mi
    6. Take the ramp onto CA-1 S/US-101 S

    Default Would love to go!

But my 2nd baby due on May 27. Will have to be home taking care of a wife, a 5 year old and a week year old baby by then At least, I will get couple of weeks off from work.

The route sounds interesting. I have been in the south bay for 7 years, never got a chance to explore the north bay yet. I just went to muir wood a couple of times.

    Will go next time!

Funny coincidence. There's a guy on Bimmerforums with a white 530i who might not be able to come out because his wife is having their second kid. I thought you two were the same person for a second

Congrats, and hope to see you at the next one!
