Cable blocking the trans fill plug

I am trying to check the oil level of my 92 525ia tranny but noticed there is a cable blocking the fill plug! I can fit my hex socket into it. How do you guys remove the tranny fill plug? Did you remove the cable?

flex the shifter cable just enough to get the wrench on to break it loose and the plug out
