A couple of guys have done the E39 V8 into the E34, one of which I've been on the track with (its VERY fast). try a search on m5board.com - they had a few issues - all detailed there.
I'm in the market for a new motor for my 94 540.
Should I stick with an M60 or expand my search options to include M62 and S62 motors?
I've read archived threads and heard that people have swapped newer motors into their E34 and I'm contemplating doing the same thing in my garage.
Any advice is appreciated!

I've been reading over there... and it piqued my interest. I'm looking at different engine and tranny combos and reading about turbo installs.

You'll spend 20 grand retrofitting an S62 into an E34, and it's not a very reliable motor.
M62 is also fairly expensive to retrofit, and I only know of one person who's done it successfully.
I'd stick with the M60 and stick an ESS or VF kit on it if power's an issue.
There's plenty of power stock.. and I'm gonna stick with the auto tranny for now. I wonder if I'll be able to find a good M60 at a reasonable price.
