    Default Lkm advice

ever since i've had my 94 540 i get bulb error messages as soon as i turn the lights on.bms first said it was due to corroded headlight caps which were replaced and made no difference.

they then said it was the lkm as they put mine in another car and it gave the same errors and the other cars worked fine in mine.

so went to the wrecker today and bought a secondhand one.installed and exactly the errors.swapped it for another they had and it did the same.tried their third and last and it was better in that i didn't get a brake error that all the others did but it still cycled thru saying all bulbs bad.

they shipping me another and i hope it's the answer but are these lkm's so bad that mine plus 3 others all have the same fault

    any ideas

Yep, the LKM's are notoriously bad for this sort of error, thankfully they can be fixed very easily by anyone who knows how to use a soldering iron, takes about 30-45mins all up, and solves the problem once and for all.

Look at Bruno's web site, it shows how to do most repairs on our cars.

After saying that, my 540 had similar probs to start with and I swapped my LKM with Phil Sanderson's and all is good with both cars.

Or pay someone on this board to do it for you.

thanks guys. Wasn't the lkm after all.Found in the archives a few who had had the same problem which was caused by the headlight adjusters.

disconnected them and now all seems ok.

still can't believe it yet as the car has done this since i got it and its been to bm's twice as well as 2 auto electricians and noone has been able to solve it

They draw too much power. There is a newer version with a white spot on the housing.
    Or install a 4 diodes
