Default Does a 6 speed m5 gearbox fit up to an m30?

Just wondering, would be an interesting upgrade for a 535i.

then you change the diff to a shorter ratio. overdrive or not there is still an advantage.

Thats a good question about the m50 would think that probably the m3 box would fit? euro e36s have s50 until the e46 came in so i think there is a 6 speed for the 3.2L s50 which you'd think would fit.

Yes there is. One sold on e-bay for $1582.00 a few weeks back. I bid to 1100.00 and decided the coolness of 6 speeds wasn't worth it for me....

Now there is this one in Germany, maybe I can get my Uncle to pick it up for me in Franfurt http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...9640&rd=1&rd=1

What would shipping by boat be for that thing?

Think it'll work? How about the driveshaft length?

    Hi,

When I was having my 5-speed replaced, the shop had an M5 gearbox sitting right there and I asked about compatibility. It's been a while but I recall that the mechanic said that the rear plate had to be changed out on the engine since not all the bolt holes would line up.

Needless to say, I stayed with the stock Getrag.

    Regards,

Wow, that would require a adapter plate design. Is the input shaft splines the same from the 95-5 to the later 6 ??
    I'd love to do a 6 in my M50 (91').Instead of a 5 swap only....while I'm at it.

you could buy or manufacture a new bellhousing for your tranny, but it would not be inexpensive in the long run.
