Well last week I went down to N. Wales, England and got an amazing 30.6 mpg - Excellent! Last time I did the same run I did a similar mileage but used a lot more fuel, only reaching 26.3 mpg. Here is the fuel calculator that I used:- http://www.pug306.net/mpg.php The numbers I fed in were 667 miles/ £90 of petrol at 90.9p ltr and the previous trip was the same mileage and fuel price but with £105 of fuel used. Here's the proof that a good, well adjusted cylinder head makes a huge difference to mpg.
