Default Anyone know how to replace 530iA trans cooling lines.

I plan to replace my 95 530iA Trans cooling lines and wonder which way to remove/install them with all the custom bends and engine/trans/suspension interference.

I checked my Bentley and it does not cover this replacement procedure and what items to remove to replace these tran lines.

Do they exit/enter from the front of the car and what items need to be removed to allow this replacement?

    Thanks for sharing your advice/experience.

Not that hard to remove (speaking for an e32 735i), your e34 m60 automatic will be different. You'll need an open end flarenut wrench, probably 19 mm to remove them at the trans end but you might get lucky with a regular open end wrench or crescent wrench if they're not too tight. Take note of the o-rings down in the recess in the transmission case & replace them. The fittings don't have to be super tight when putting it back together, the o-ring will make the seal, just get them tight enough for them not to vibrate loose. You don't want to squish the new o-rings to oblivion. Ditto for the ones at the cooler end.

Follow the lines and remove any clips. Mine were attached to a bracket on the sub-frame near the steering box and perhaps another on the firewall, it's been a few years. I pulled them out from the front, one at a time, twisting as required to snake them out. Here's a diagram for your 530i:

It's going to be alot cheaper for you to take them to a farm or industrial equipment shop that does hydraulics, and have them swage new hose onto your existing metal lines vs. buying new lines. They'll have all the necessary crimps and rubber hose. Mine cost me $25 for the pair.

Default What about the v8 and its tight spacing for twisting the line out.

Isn't your t35 a straight 6 cyl? My car is the v8 which is very tight between the bellhousing and trans tunnel for the twisting you mention. Was your car tight with twisting the lines out of the front and did it require other parts to be removed to clear the hard pipes bends?

I've manuevered my lines all around the eng/trans/suspension and do not see a good way to remove the lines without deforming them to get them clear of the trans/tunnel or suspension and eng spaces.

    Thanks

The V8 transmission oil cooler lines are a different animal. I removed the coller with the lines. It is a real PITA. Three out of four of the torx screws holting the cooler to the transmission are stripped.
