Wonder what the reserve price is...

I'd get it just to learn how to put it back together.

it would have been better off being all built up at least that way it could be stripped and rebuilt properly instead of getting a box of bits, i wouldn't like to try and rebuild it not knowing what order it came out in

It really isn't if you have the tools and the specs for assembly. Some creative pressing / pulling can be required. Having a lathe to fab up quick tools is pretty useful... I have no idea where one would find the tolerances for an M5 tranny though.

Not to crap on anyone's parade, but you can't rebuild this transmission -- there are no parts available for it, from the factory or the aftermarket. Short of machining whatever needs to be replaced (which could be as simple as a bearing with a ton of other applications), chances are that this will stay as parts.

Dismantling and putting it back together is fairly simple, even without proper tools. It's the replacement of the parts that's difficult.

It's likely that the seller thought it could be fixed and dismantled it, only to decide that it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a new box ($5500 last time I checked).

The price without the reserve is right if you want a bunch of fun gears and parts to play around with, though.
