Default A question thats probably been answered a thousand times....

Hey guys and girls, I am going to turbo my 91 525i and I was wondering if someone can please help me with the following...

My E34 has the M50 engine and as part of my turbo conversion I am going to convert it to manual, my question is will a box previously on an M20 bolt up to my M50 without any major modifications???

Also, are the boxes strong enough to take 500ish HP or am i better off to have something else stronger engineered to fit??

    Thanks,

    Damo

check project M3 on european car's website. The tranny was strong enough but they kepy blowing headgaskets and had to do some serious internal work in order to reach the 500hp they wanted. The S50 and M50 are very similiar in the US so I think that should give you an idea.

No No No....A tornado will only get you 450bhp.. You need this.......You will see around 700bhp, and I would put a turbo350 gearbox in to handle this power......Jeff...You remember this one.

500hp seems like alot for a 2.5 L engine. I think the wheels would fall off my car if the frame didn't snap in half at that clip. Hope the turbo comes with another engine mounted on top.

    Default wow....

I'm about 90% sure the answer is NO. The 5 speed partner to the M20 won't partner to the M50. Otherwise, this road is well worn, do search for turbo.
