Default Spurious Light Warnings on Check Control

Howdy! Can anyone help? I'm getting spurious light warnings on the check control of my Beamer. It happens almost every time I switch the lights on. The warnings I get, and they occur in no particular order, are "brake light-dip beam-tail light-licence plate light". Needless to say, all of these lights- indeed ALL lights on the car work fine. I've checked the soldering in the light control module (LKM) and there are no visible faults. Pressing the check control button brings up the message "Check Control OK". The car is a RHD E34 540i Auto. What is wrong? Thanks for your help!

i would assume the LKM to Check Control signal wire got disconnected, either in one of the units themselves or at the connector for the module.

for your info had mine checked today.bmw guys are confident that the problems caused by a prat in the back of the headlight which builds uo resistance.

it was just on closing time so didn't exactly remember the part name but was at the back and might hv been globe holder.they r ordering for next week so will let u know

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. One of the headlamp aim motors started chattering so I replaced it, and this resulted in the spurious check control warnings simultaneously disappearing. So in this instance it wasn't the LKM.

That is a well known fact, that if the headlight motors draw too much power, then you get these warnings, even that the headlights are not working, but actually they do.
But most of the people in USA do not know this, as headlight aiming motors are not very common.
So if everything works, that are peaks in power consumption by the aim motors. You can solve the problem like shown on the pics here
    Installing diodes

They only let 12 V through.

German info, maybe you use altavista babelfish for translation

Better aim motors are now on the market and I have read that they have a white spot mark for identification.

And this shows again that all should add in their profile the model, engine type, month/year of production and country specification.
If you would have told me that this is not US spoec, then I would have pointed in that direction earlier.

Thanks Shogun. I did mention it was a RHD E34 540i Auto in my initial post, however I'll add the info you suggested to my profile.

Could also be an Aussie RHD, and they have different LKM again and the CCM is also different. Pin numbers are the same, but some are not connected depending on the various country specs. For example the US LKM has only 3 relais while the others have 4 relais, because of no rear foglights in USA models. And the AUSTRIA version of the LKM is again different.
My cars have Japanese versions LKM-L-J and the CCM is also Japanese version.

Thanks for adding the info, makes it easier for us to help.

I've started to get this error popping up at random times on my US Spec 92 525. No headlight aimers here. Any ideas?

Are you sure, that the lights are not out for seconds?
    First thing to do:
clean all contacts on headlights, the contact surface can be bended after cleaning.
Change the bulbs, even if they are o.k., remove LKM ,check the surface of the pins, spray with electr. contact spray and insert again.
