Default Can you dumb-down an M20?

Can you do away with the computer controlled stuff and still use an M20? I don't know how you would get around not having the computer to adjust the timing or not having the electronics to control the transmission, etc. Is this even possible with the M20?

Custom car usage. Or more to-the-point, making it look more old-timey. I don't require upping the power of the engine as factory horsepower is really quite usable, especially in something lighter, but I didn't know there was a model of the engine with a normal distributor.

Can you see 9:1 or even 10:1 without any problems and without a huge hassle on these motors?

using euro parts you can get high compression a carb and a distributor depending on what block you are basing it on, i use to have a 2.0 euro m20 with a carb but after about 5 years no bought it so i crushed it in the car it was a 80 320-6 (not a 323 they are injected, atleast all of the ones i've seen)

Default Dumb down the M20 and...

you'll have to smart up the the owner.

A triple Weber DCOE set up would take jetting, synchroing, dwell and no OBDC help.

It's all old school plug pulls, sniffing exhaust and $$$$

    I like DME

Early L-Jet M20s had a "regular" distributor as well - I'm sure you could combine it with a carb kit, for the ultimate in prehistoric fun.

i am interested however in dumbing down the auto trans, so it acts only in "manual" mode like SMG, but with an auto gear system. i would love to be able to switch it to 5th the second i get on the highway, instead of waiting till the OFFRAMP!!!!... for it to shift there. and also shifting for hills in advance instead of waiting for the transmission to determine its already unable to do its job in the current gear.

as for the M20, if you drop in some ultra light components from metric mechanic, new hot cams, and throw on megasquirt with individual coils, you will be absolutely amazed with the performance output of the M20.

redline higher than an M3, with more power all the way there!
