Default Nosiey v8 Repairs to be done from previous thread.

Well guys, I understand that the 530iA v8 cylinders are as costly or more costly to repair than to just get a good used engine and that accordingly to a few local chapter indys the 4.0 bolted to my 530iA trans and shaft and diff will just fine.

Soooo, I'm searching for a good used 4.0L M60 with DME and maybe harness although the indys says it not necessary. Hopefully not too far from Charlotte, NC for shipping costs.

What mileage for a "Good" used 4.0L v8 engine would you guys suggest and what about the heads fo rthis used engine...should I expect them to last as long as the engines in these cars. I find that many of you have 200k+ miles on your 540/740 cars.

    Thanks

anything under 100k should be perfectly fine. If the engine ran good you dont need to worry about the heads or anything else except the oil pump which is notorious to loosen itself up and drop bolts into the pan.

Default Do tell...where are you and best price. I have a local from a 740 that I'm considerin

Is your M60 in the car or removed and what is the best price with shipping to 28227.

What happened to your car to have the engine available?

    Best Regards,

    cw

Look for a wrecked car if you have a place to part it out. It probably won't cost any more than a motor, you'll have all the little incidentals and can probably sell enough parts to make it a freebie.

I've heard that your automatic will go south very quick with a 4.0 bolted to it.

indeed it will, the extra torque will rip the clutches to bits. i was thinking of looking for a 540iA trans for my 530 when i supercharge it, and possibly rebuilding the 540 trans before with some zirconium nitride composite coating on the planetary gears, new clutches/valve body/seals etc.

Mmm... with this in mind... are you sure you are not better off by just buying a 540iA to begin with or better yet... a 540i manual... and sell your 530iA.

Default It seems I may just part it and try a e39 528i 6-Cyl but what to look out for on e39?

I'm starting to reason with all the comments and want a v8 but have also wanted 528i, e39, as the 6-cyl and enough for me as a daily driver and I like the inline 6-cyl.

Any comments on where I can learn about the e39's and there problems to shop away from and how many miles are too many for the e39?

    Thanks bimmer guys,
