Check for oil in the spark plug holes - leaky VC gasket
Had the problems with the fuel pump, this seems all ok now but the car has a misfire, it seems worse under load and at lower revs, above 3.5k it seems to improve. not sure if the misfire was there before the fuel pump problems as got the car with the fault, any ideas?
I suppose could start with the basics like new plugs etc.

Yep, misfire under load is often weak ignition.

probably a failing coil, easyer to diagnose with a automatic where you can power brake it while popping coil plugs off to see which one is crapping out
