You would give up the 535i? Why? for a 1990 car, it's a great vehicle. If you are looking for more power, why not the 550? I would not want to get another, unless new (<15K miles) because I would not know how to work on it.

Keep kidding yourselves guys... I have both, and the 540i/6 gets my ****-eating-grin award any time.![]()
Exactly refering to Tim...hey btw between the 2, like how much more power can you feel? like percentage wise haha
An M5 is faster, and also stays in that nice straight 6 bmw tradition![]()

Actually, from what I understand they're basically the same in the city. Similar 0-60's, and the V8 makes the 540i torque more driveable, the M5 has to be really wrung out to shine.Originally Posted by Michael999

I'd say the 540i definitely pulls harder on the freeway, but it's most notible from a stop or at low rpm's. That's when the V8 just GOES, while you have to wait for the big 6 to spin up a bit.Originally Posted by BFEINZIMER
Plus with the 6-spd, 75mph is ~2,000RPM, so freeway cruising is pretty chill.

Exactly it takes a little bit for it to get going from a stop...
