    Default Venturi Effect

I replaced my 2.8 air mass with a 2.0 unit and using a g-tech meter, managed to shave off almost 1.2 secs for the 0-60mph time. I managed to clock 8.6s (M52 engine block, ported head, 5hp-18 ZF tranny) in my e34.

Is this due to the venturi effect?? Smaller diameter, quicker air velocity??

Yup, and this principle has also been used to create a vacuum for various archaic applications. In a Venturi tube (as is commonly termed) you can pull a vacuum with a little rigging by inserting a valve at the constriction. The pressure in the larger DIA tube is reduced went air flows to the smaller DIA. tube. The problem with this type of setup is that in creating a vacuum, air has to be released and it is freakin' loud.

Just for the hell of it, consider a very crowded room where people are squeezed together. As soon as a door is opened, people begin to exit. The squeezing (pressure) is least near the door where the motion (flow) is greatest.
