Default Diesel / TDS Conversion - Anyone?

Just curious if anyone has converted their car to a diesel in the past? Source the parts from the UK? Any real hang-ups? I've done this swap on several vehicles in the past and I'd love to do it to my wagon.

Great idea. I wish you luck. I would like to do the same to mine (along with a 5 speed).

Yeah I believe he bought one a German family had imported, which is different set of laws. Buying and physically getting the car here into the states isn't the issue – Its all the certifications and hoops you’d have to jump through to register it. (DOT & EPA = $$$$) Ultimately we’re not talking about a $100k car so it would be hard to justify the costs. If I was to just purchase and import the drive train and install it myself the lo$$ probably wouldn’t be as bad.

Diesels are usually emissions testing exempt so that shouldn't really be an issue when it comes to import to the US. I was looking for a diesel/5 or 6 speed E34 before I bought my 525. Really wish I found it

How about a big ol' rattlin' turbo Cummins in there? One of a kind!

I am going to keep this thread alive by asying that i have indeed thought of doing a diesel comversion, but using the motor from a E28 524td and putting it in an E30 325e, with the 2.73:1 rear or whatever they have, and a 5 speed.
The thing would be a dog, but probably get like 45 MPG on the highway
