My '98 automatic has an "A"-"M" selector to the left of the shift lever. Is that what you are talking about?
Just wondering if E36 328i (either auto or manual) have 'Sport' button (all stock/factory fitted), similar to the 'M' button in M3/M5?
Thanx

Yeh thats probably what it is, when you push the button, does the car get full performance/power/acceleration, or is it one of those "power" buttons that every automatic gets when overtaking (reduces gear, increases acceleration slightly)?
If it's anything like the "sport" mode on my 530 it mainly affects the way the transmission operates to get the most horsepower out of the engine, the most noticeable being the shift points occur at a higher RPM.
I don't think it does anything to change the ECU functions, air/fuel etc...........

Ok thanks, thats all I wanted to know.
Dunno if your 328i has a 5-speed auto, but on the 4-speed auto putting it in 3rd puts it in Sport mode, upshifting at a higher rpm and also locking up the torque converter in 3rd. Manual mode just holds the gear selected without any up/downshift, except for Drive which defaults to 3rd gear when Manual mode is selected.
