Hang on a minute! If it's banging and knocking then those bearings are toasted, and the journal(s) that are being bashed about will be out of round anyway. Replacing the bearing shells will only work for a little while, maybe a week - you're going to need the crankshaft reground and new oversize bearings fitted. If you look at my (simple) web pages you will see my current M20 engine with impact marks on piston no. 6, caused by a worn bearing shell. When I took the crankshaft to my local machine shop, they had to regrind every journal to make it good. Definately not a weekend job, and quite costly too!
Cheers,
Shaun
damn, really? if thats the case then i might break the car, cheaper then sourcing out a new engine
