wiper/left headlight??

Are the two related on the e34 2/89 ?
Reason of question, 1) My left headlight lens is missing ( I believe the retaining ring was never there when car was purchased) so one rainy day last week I go out start the car and no wipers but also noticed the bulb had blown.....when I replaced the bulb the wiper went on to function just fine, well until I can afford a new assembly should I expect this happen as It did it again this morning before work ......last night the headlight was working but noticed again this bulb blown...plugged in new one...wipers worked??
