Dyno smog results - interesting

Hi,

I had my '91 535 in for it's routine CA smog check and when I saw the dyno, my heart sank. The tech said that the failure rate was 30%, primarily for NOx, which would imply cat problems.

He also said that BMWs and MBs were difficult to pass, unless they were correctly maintained. I have 120k miles, so he thought I might just squeak through.

The test results were amazing. This car had readings way below the limits and well below the averages. In fact, the tech called the rest of the crew together and said "check this out, guys, this car is a '91".

Dodged a bullet there. Who needs Motronic 7.1 or whatever? VANOS? Nah :-)
