Default M60: ignition timing question? Help!

Is the crank timing gear (that is keyed to the crankshaft and has to do with ignition timing), known for possibly breaking the key and being completely off?

My ignition timing is retarded by 50 degrees and we're trying to figure out why.

I think that you may have pushed the little woodruff key back into the crank. and you have your crank pulley on incorrectly (thats saying if the crank pully sensor gear is the same or close to an M50).

Hmm, I wonder how we managed to do that? How do I fix this?

You'd have take off the serpentine belts, and pulleys on the crank. Then look for the pin that is sticking out.

LOL everything about this dudes car is so vague the pros are afraid to even comment on it. Did he even take this apart? I am convinced at 2 things, the head gaskets dont blow and 2' if in doubt replace the whole engine.

Jeff's right. I'm no pro, but i am wondering where we're going (and coming) with this one. I was about to post earlier, but I decided i was too confused

Its not rocket science. $hit, its barely a macaroni sculpture. If the M60 has an 'OT' mark on the balancer, the key isn't broken, and the marks line up at TDC, you're issue is in the top end. Maybe that intake cam on the pass. side I was talking about in an old post. 50 degrees, I think not, but something is up.

How/who determined this 50 degrees? I'd like to see this one through as we've had three separate posts on it already. Give us more info rather than asking how to fix ignition timing.

    Talk to you soon??
