    Default 540 fuel filter

Does it have 2 of them? If so, Why? Thanks

    Default Depends on build-date

Early 540s (and 530s) have a dual-filter setup. I had the dual-filter setup on my 3/93-build 530iT, then switched to the single-filter from the later models. The single-filter is the same diameter as each of the dual-filters, but is twice as long. I installed the single-filter in the lower of the two slots on the stock filter-holder.

Mine's a 2/95 build date and there are 2 cans under there. I was just wondering why they used 2 instead of like you said, one big one. Probably so I can buy two filters instead of one.

    Default if you look closer.....

you will see that the filters are installed parallel, not inline. this way there is less restriction for fuel flow. it's like having a dual exhaust for the fuel system. a single filter might cause the fuel pump to work harder. the 540i/a fuel pump feeds 50psi to the fuel rail. i have 2 & my build date is 4/94. 2 new filters are not really all that expensive.

My 05/95 production date car has one filter.
