only way to know for sure is to check the engine # on the block by the starter
Can someone please tell me if BMW used a campaign decal when replacing nik blocks? If so how do I identify it and will it indicate if the replacement was nik or alusil?
Thanks

all america wants is cold beer warm cat and a place to take a poop with a door on it
No decal. You have to physically look at the engine block from underneath. Koala Motorsport has a page on this... do a search... Nikasil & Koala Motosport & BMW
Only sure fire way. What if the owner demanded his car back when they finished at the end of the day on Friday and they could not find the stickers?only way to know for sure is to check the engine # on the block by the starter
The stone age didn't end for a lack of stones. Neither will the hydrocarbon age......
or they nuked the al motor and a salvaged nic was installed

One of these numbers should be stamped under the passenger side cylinder head.
· 1 725 970 - Nikasil
· 1 741 212 - Nikasil
· 1 745 871 - Alusil

In the UK you can ring BMW with the vin and reg number and they will tell you everything. When it was changed, what the block is now and also give you the garage details so you can call them for more detail.
You might be able to do this in the US as well.

Thanks guys. The car in question wasn't what I had hoped anyway so it's a moot point.
In talking with the shop foreman at the local dlr I found that #1 745 873 is also alusil
