Default Chip in windscreen -- clear nail polish?!

    Hey everyone,

Was driving the other day where a rig kicked up some gravel or something and I head a BANG on my windscreen -- I can clearly see the chip which is somewhat annoying, but I don't want this chip to develop into a crack (just not yet at least -- the windscreen I have now is pretty crappy quality but need to save up before replacing).

My mum suggested to put clear nail polish or something on the chip to prevent it to develop into a crack and progress from there, but I wanted to know if this is true? Or if there's something else I can use?

    Cheers,
    -- George
