The ute is a standard form of Commodore, always has been since the 2nd generation Commodore went on sale in Australia. It is based on the European Opel Rekord/Senator platform, the GM's Aussie HQ have adapted this as their standard platform which with the re-vival of the 2-door unit 'Monaro' has been exported to the USA. Now the Utes or 'pickups' are being exported also I guess. Standard engines oin the Commodore are the 3.6L Bucik V6s and the biggest are the 5.7L small block Chev, all the tooling for these engines comes form the US.
