Unlike a lot of you I dont do much work on my car.I do my own oil and filter changes,and have done things like brake light switch etc.I keep it clean,replace light bulbs n such.I would prolly do my own brake pads and stuff like that.My car ws Due an inspection II.I took it too another workshop that is an European Specialist,was recomended by a few people.First clue was I told them not to top up the intensive clean fluid cos the pump is shot,got a blank look in return.
When I pick the car up all they have done is change the oil and filter and a few other things.Says it is in really good condition and has obviuosly been really well serviced last time!They didnt even change the spark plugs or adjust the valves.....
And they wonder why its in good condition
Its called MAINTENANCE!

Roll up yur sleeves. When you don't need the car for a couple of days, just start pulling things apart. Make sure its good and disabled, then you're forced to learn something Its a start.

Must hate to pay for something you could have done yourself. I've had parts department staff at the dealership fumble for parts in the diagram (ETK) when I've had my ETK open on the phone. They're about to sell me something wrong when I ask,
"are you sending me #11 ?"
"Yeah, the muffler bearing you asked for".
"No, I need #14 to the right of it"
The BMA staff ar much better.

I am in the same boat skills wise, but I am getting a small bit of valve rattle. How hard of a job is it to reset the height on these? I have a Bentley, but I trust you guy's opinion on this stuff a little more rthan a book.

I really want to learn to do most things on this car myself, but it is my primary transport, and I'll never hear the end of it from my wife if I screw it up.

post up here tell the guys what you are going to do.hey will tell you what tools you need and everything.Get it ll ready,and start early Saturday morning,hopefully by lunch time or early afternoon you will be done!Valve adjustment is a good one,need to remove a couple of things then you are into it!
