Default Can I add a BMW remote from a newer BMW?

My car seems to be prewired for an alarm. I would like to add keyless entry. I found a bunch of remotes for e34 on ebay (ugly boxy ones). Can I add something from an e36 maybe (much better round one)?

I'd like to know this too - I have got the long rectangular version but would like to get a spare one for a second driver. The 7 series ones are a more modern design .... but can you reprogram them to fit the E34?

Default No, you cannot use the round remote for E34.

No, you cannot use the round remote for E34. However, if you don't like the square style, you can find an aftermarket remote that will work with the BMW keyless/alarm system. Important number you need to match is the FCC ID. For E34 BMW system is A269ZUA071. That number must match. Go to Autozone and they will match a remote for you or you could find aftermarket remote site on the web.

Do you still need to reprogram the remote?

Default Yes, you need to program the remote.

Yes, you need to program the remote so your system will recognize the code.
