    It is no secret that I have keyless entry problems and this board is ridden with keyless entry threads, but none apply to me. I have a key like the one below and need any of you kind gentlemen with the same key to shed some light on my situation. I know I need a keyless entry module, just not which one. I am pretty sure the modules that have the chip wont work and cannot find any information anywhere. If you get a chance and could help me out, would you mind finding the model number for the keyless entry modules you have? I know for a fact that mine should be located under the rear seat as the plug is back there, im just missing the module and the harness between the module and the prewired plug.

    The part numbers for the modules that I have found so far are part 82 11 1 468 755 for the 5 series and part 82 11 1 469 444 for the 3 series, which also looks like it will work. If I am not mistaken these both program a chip and my ultimate goal is to use my current remote. If it matters, the DOC/MDC on my key is 267K1268 and the FCC ID is LX8 FZV.

    1) Did your car not come with keyless entry of any sort?

    2) Is that (one pictured) your 'current' fob (for clarity, this one is clearly not for your model)

    3) What are the differences internally between that fob and one that is designed for your module (assuming you have one)... examination of the chip used is of primary interest.

    4) Are the module part numbers you list for late e34 (540)? If so, then the question is what is the difference in the connections for the module between the 540 production and the 530 (and the rest of the e34 models).

    We must appreciate that over the long production of the e34 there were many advances in this field and they employed many different systems, (Infra red through to coded keys) so it is confusing for all of us as there are lots of solutions posted on the web that may (or may not) apply in each case. Further clarity on this subject generally is certainly necessary in the case of e31/32/34. Any similarities with e36 are important as this provides the comunity with a larger pool of more modern parts.

    Perhaps posting a picture of what is under the back seat on your car would help- specifically the plugs that are there (opposite side to the battery). It would be worth removing the tamper-proof cover for clarity. Make sure the pics are good so people can see...

    To be a little more specific, no, when I got my car it did not have a keyless module of any sort in it, it is however prewired for keyless/alarm. Here are links to images I just took of my backseat: Image 1 Image 2


    I took some pictures of the plug I have by the battery. As you can see, a few wires have been cut, I guess, one of the previous owners decided to install a 3rd party keyless system and then remove it before they sold it: Image 1 Image 2

    These following images are from the left side of the backseat, at the fuse box, where the module should be mounted: Image 1 Image 2 As you can see, its a little messy back there, thank you previous owner. I should clean it up but thats being saved for another day.

    The fob in the picture, and shown in my own is the fob I recieved with the car. I can accept that it may not be the original, but I have seen other board members with this or similar key, assuming the key came with their cars as well. My Key

    To answer your question genphreak, I have no idea when part number 82 11 1 468 755 was used in the 5 series, but is the part number that is displayed in ETK using my cars serial number. All I know about the 2nd part number I posted is that it was used in the e36 3 series and apparently is compatible with the e34 5 series.

    Hopefully some of this new information has cleared some things up. Once I figure out how to pull the carpet back far enough and figure out how to remove the tamper-proof covers on both sides of that area, I will take more pictures and post them.

    I really don't know much more, but those pics really help. Have a look (Search) for some of Javier's old posts on the subject of remote or keyless locking... I'm sure there are others that know a bit more than I do (nothing) on this... maybe somebody will comment further... people?

    All I know is that I have a blue connector on my 535 (down beside the General Module box). It came from factory with an 'anti-theft alarm' that works when the car is dead-locked. (no remote at all). Sorry I can't be of more help right now... am sure someone else can be tho Nick

    I have the same key but my car is a late 95 build. I'm not sure when they started using this key fob.

    I have a late prod 540i with a similar key. Mine is the 3 button one but does not have a led on the front. Let me know if there is anything specific you want me to look at via PM.

    Here is an interesting tidbit of information that I just discovered. It seems that in later 1995 BMWs, BMW switched from an Alpine security system to Siemens, which uses RFID. This does not help me much since my car was manufactured in 3/93, but does somewhat explain when Keyfobs began to be used in BMWs. Here's a link to this new information.
