    Default clock spring/horn ring replacement

my steering wheel makes noise when turning. A local BMW mechanic thinks it is the clock spring or horn ring in the steering wheel. I tried to swap a steering wheel with one from a salvage yard but the wiring for the air bag seemed different. Mine is a 1995 525i and the other is a 525i E34 series but not sure of the year. Should this steering wheel swap work? Better solution?

I am getting a squeaking noise also, hope there is an easy answer to this.

BTW, is there any danger of setting off the airbag when removing the wheel?

If it has **** or tires, you are going to have problems.

Mine squeaks also, mostly when cold but decided to live with it after reading up on it. There is a slip ring that needs to be lubed IIRC.

It is actually very easy to take off if you follow the instructions at this web link http://www.lehrmangroup.com/rickard/airBagAndBulbs.html

As as it sounds, the local BMW mechanic wanted $400 to fix this. I guess that is why I am always a bit leary of quotes from mechanics........

I finally found a solution- i took the steering wheel from the 1990 525i back and traded it for a 1995 525i steering wheel. I installed it today using my air bag and it turns as smoothly as new with NO NOISE. It only took about 10 minutes. This turned out to be a great solution for me- hope that helps!!!
