Does it count that I ALMOST beat my friend(?) to a pulp with the jackstand that he didn't move fully out of the way when lowering my car and crushing the passenger underside rocker panel? You can't see it unless your under the car, but to say the least, I don't have him help with my car anymore

    Default Gave myself "mouse eyes"

from cleaning a set of Weber DCOEs.

had the DCOEs in a pan of gas and solvent and thought "how cool these carbs are" and started playing with them and I picked one up, lined the chokes to eye level and flipped the throttle and the pump jets shot perfect streams of gas and solvent into my eyes.

My eyes were bright pink-red for the rest of the week.

3 fingers between a caliper and a rim. Ouch.

When I use to bust tires(ha) Helping a rookie mount bob cat tires with the tube.(SON OF A BITCH) Anyways, he was mounting the tire and using the tire bar lever. Slips and smacks him hard right in his shirt pocket!!! Good thing he was white, a redneck, and had his dip in his pocket.

Got a friend that grabbed a thin wire on the back of an alternator that had no insulation on the wire. A perfectly quarterized slice to the second knuckle of two fingers..not so bad. BUT, the tendons, like elastic went back up his arm to near his elbow, and needed microsurgery to re-attach.

It sounds like some of you have learned some valuable and costly lessons.

I'm a pretty cautious guy but everyone who works on a car is going to feel pain.

Trying to be a good brother, I decided to get my brother a new starter and install it on his GMC 6.2L diesel . . . before Christmas. I tried to do it fast, no ramps, under the truck, in December in Michigan. I'm freezing, I can't feel my fingers, I'm not thinking well, and I'm trying to thread about a 9 inch bolt through the starter into the engine. I thought I had it so I let go and look around for the ratchet . . . and then it let's loose. I'm directly under it so it drops right onto my lip, ouch. Any lower, I'd be spitting out my two front teeth.

Another time, I was helping my other brother remove the jack shaft on his acura integra so he could replace the alternator (what was the engineer smoking when he came up with that design?). I was wearing safety glassse under the car prying with everything I had to pop this shaft off the clip with a 3 foot crow bar. The bar slipped off the shaft and hit me right in the eye. Fortunately, the glasses diverted the bar into my cheek. It hurt but at least I can see with both eyes.

Moral of the story: let your brothers work on their own cars.

I met a guy who had and engine fall on his head, really messed him up, serious brain damage, could barely talk and was in a wheelchair. Always makes me paranoid...extra jack stands for me...
