Hissing sound & petrol fume smell

when my engine is running there appears to be misting and fumes coming from the fuel return hose just after the fuel pressure regulator (fpr).

how do i know whether it is the fpr or hose that is faulty?

also what is the correct fuel hose diameter to use?
