Default This ? is for winfred!!

Hey winfred, I dunno anyone else to ask.

You know I have the Holset H1E turbocharger ready to go, and so I ordered a "generic" oil feed and drain kit. The drain works out well as the Holset uses a T3 style drain flange so that's fine. However, the feed is a little confusing.

Here is the kit I have:

The line is -3AN which is recommended for the turbo, the drain is 5/8" and thats good too. However, the fittings there are 1/8" NPT, while the turbo inlet fitting are something larger. I know you're involved with trucks and all, so maybe you could find literature or something equivalent to Realoem.com but for trucks, because I need to know what thread pitch/type the inlet of the turbo is.

    Here you see the turbo:

That brass fitting with the blue cap is removable. That fitting as some sort of female flare connection which is much larger than the 1/8" NPT fittings I have. When I remove that brass fitting, the threading is much closer, but still large. I am sort of pressed for time I need to find out exactly what adapter I need. So yeah, I am using a 1/8 NPT fitting so I guess I need to know what the turbo will accept and then figure out an adapter from there.

    Thanks in advance winfred.

I am of course not Winfred but I'll stick my neck out anyway. Is the turbocharger water cooled? Anyway, typically the oil connection uses a banjo bolt and you need to practice your welding skill again I presume connecting the banjo bolt to some hard tubing. Check the link out. I am sure there are domestic suppliers too.

Actually Yaofeng, not to be a pain, but most OE turbo applications are not banjobolts. Additionally you wouldnt weld a banjo bolt to a hard line, as you can see I have stainless steel braided line.

Of course my experience is limited to what I am exposed. All turbochargers on my SAAB's have banjo bolt connections for the oil lines and coolant lines. All banjo's are connected to hard tubings. And the lines and fittings are galvanized.

I can tell you more about my SAAB 9k's but you wouldn't be interested.

for a drain id drill and tap the drain flange on the turbo and make a bolt on flange with a couple inch long 1/2"-3/4" nipple to clamp a flex line onto, that's the way most of the turbos i deal with have their drains, having a drain that's smaller then the feed line = blown turbo seals.

you can see the nice flat area around the drain they just didn't drill and tap it
