I have a 1995 540i and I guess my p/s hoses are leaking all my expensive CH11 fluid! How bad is this job and does anyone have the parts list that I'll need? TIA

I know that the previous owner used the wrong hoses (no damper) which means that the hose knocks against the firewall. Its on my list to replace.
Use proper hoses, not "Make ups" from a hydraulic "expert"

You may want to first look at the clamps. BMW uses lousy crimp clamps on its p/s hoses and they eventually leak. Replace the crimp clamps with any decent worm drive clamp and your problem may go away.
I did this on my 90 535i, 5spd, 107K miles about 10K miles ago and ended up needing to replace one hose that ran from the p/s reservior to the p/s pump. If you do change a hose that attaches to the pump, make sure you go down to your local dealer and buy the correct crush washers.
it is a SEVERE pain in the ass, i gave up the second i looked under the car at all that crap and bought some power steering stop leak :/

have you not heard of realoem.com? Look up the numbers and you can order from anywhere...BMAparts.com is the first I would recommend but call and not use their internet site.
Prepere yourself to a treat when replacing these as it's not for the faint of heart. Not a hard job by any means but a bitch to get access to.

Mine have been leaking for 3 years, I just have not been able to bring myself to replace them. Its enough of a pain when someone is paying me that I have no desire to replace them in my spare time.
20bucks a litre for fluid gets old though, I will do it eventualy
It's a major PITA even with the drive train removed. I think it is impossible to do it with the engine in. Now that I have the drive train out I am replacing every piece of PS hose that is suspect.Originally Posted by charlie
