Sorry I ment to say 750i. So some 740i's and all 750i's had LSD? Just trying to figure out what to keep an eye out for.

the 740s have the correct size differential for the 540, as for ratios and LSD you would have to check the particular unit.

as for the 750 Im not sure.

hmm inkfish is right, 3.64 is too high for the manual. 3.23 is right on for stock, and 3.15 if you have a "performance" chip and intake (according to dinan).

speaking of that, the Dinan one comes with a new driveshaft and rear axles and required mounting hardware..... at the steep cost of $3500

I've just ordered a 3.23 LSD with a viskolok insert out of an E46 M3 for my 540i/6. Will be a while before I get it as it is coming from Germany, but will report back once it has arrived and been installed.

    Cheers

3:64 is too high... You guys play in your own club, leave the rest of us alone.

    Default Won't lose the cruise

    Brosher,
I bought my 540i/6 with the stock 2.93 open. I had the chance to pick up a 3.15 LSD cheap here in Detroit so I grabbed it. The swap is fairly straightforward. Make sure you change the input flange seal, since you have to swap flanges anyway, and put NEW LSD gear lube in. I did notice a bit of difference in the performance. Not quite as much as if you'd chipped it, but you CAN tell a difference. I definitely wouldn't go higher than 3.23 MAX for the diff ratio, or your first gear will be almost useless! The cruise control worked just fine afterwards.

    Default Lsd

Since we are in the discussion of LSDs, I'd like to know what diff ration is installed in a '92 m50 520i? And can it be swapped with 3.15 or higher?
