Default Why does this combination of codes come up? P1397, P1622, P1529

I know that 1397 is Exhaust Cam Position Sensor Malfunction, 1622 is Electric Thermostat Control, Final Stage and 1529 is Exhaust VANOS Solenoid Electrical Fault.

Does anyone have any ideas why these would show up together?

id clear them and see what if any come back, none of those really are connected and all are usually hard faults, not like a 02 sensor control or misfire code which points to behavior instead of a bad part

Is the cam position sensor a common fault? Is it easy to fix?

reboot the computer and see the next code as Winfred says, could be a fluke.

Same code keeps coming back. Does that mean that the cam position sensor is bad? Where is this thing?

if it keeps coming back it's probably bad, the cam sensor/sensors read off the sprockets in front of the head

Please note you are also on a board with mostly e34 [1989-1995] 5 series cars. Go to the e46 board and I think you will have a lot more luck finding an answer or someone who has experienced this themselves.

Default Its a very common fault and its fairly easy to replace on your car.

I think the part is around 80 bucks from BMA
