No other way on some cars, otherwise one has to remove the spare wheel box and the fuel tank is in the way.
All E32 with quad pipes have the same system.

Quad exhausts look aggressive! Of course, not any more practical than the watermelon mufflers, the ricers use.

I saw an E39 540 with quad exhaust at my Indy's. Upon closer inspection I saw it had this stupid screw-on dual outlet on the right side.
Was one of the most lame things I've ever seen.
