Default 83 733i overheating prob and noise at takeoff

Hi just wanted to know what it would sound and feel like if your car has a cracked head? I've been having this overheating problem and I can't seem to figure it out. Temp gauge goes all the way to the red but led light doesn't turn on. I took it to my mechanic and he had this little infared temp gun. and he was shooting it all over the radiator which was basically the same temp all over - 201 and then he did it to the engine and from the back of the engine (closest to where driver sits) it was like 186 and then as he moved temp guage to other side(closer to nose of car) it was 154 and he was like "Hmmm.." and so I freaked out and said "what what" He said "probably nothing to worry about" So I've been reading old archives and I'm just scared I have or will blow a head. When I start to drive off it makes this wierd tin, sqeaky noise - like coming from exhaust I hope , but then goes away when I pick up speed. My car is all jacked up but I love it so much. It's my first BMW 1983 733i and I'll never part with it. Please help. I already have a tab going with my mechanic. Oh yeah and it won't pass smog. Mechanic said I need a new air mass meter and cat.
When car is hot (almost touching the red) and I turn on the blinker - the temp guage needle like moves with the signal light on the dash. What is that about. Wierd
I also have a parts car same as mine 83 733i if anyone needs anything. Have tons of parts
