I am about to replace the front struts on my 525i. When searching for stuts, I was asked a few times if my car is equipped with the self leveling "M Technic" suspension. How do I tell? My production date is 9/91 if that helps.

Yeah, I did that. It gives two part numbers. One for regular struts and one for M Technic. It says that it's a sport option.Originally Posted by Evan

bavarian autosport catalog number: 36 747a - front gas shock for 525i/it 7/90 thru 92, 530i/it 93 thru 95 , etc, without EDC. 109 each, sachs factory replacement. www.BavAuto.com
Thanks for the link, but after careful consideration I think that I'm going to go with KYB gas struts. They're only 70 each and seem to give good performance.Originally Posted by e39dream

I have heard several complaints about the bilsteins on this board, about them being way to stiff. However, there was a recent post where several people said that for the money you cant beat KYB. This is also what my Indy told me. I'd prefer a not so firm setup.Originally Posted by Evan

ive got bilstein HD shocks now, and they dont feel like they are stiff, however i can feel when my car goes over a pebble..... which for me is good since i like to feel like part of the road when driving.

I like my new Bilsteins too, at first seemed stiff but old originals had 170k miles on them, so anything would seem stiff after them. After 1000 miles not so stiff, less body roll and more control, feels great.
I'm not saying that they're bad, I'd just rather put the extra 60 bucks into something else on my car. The KYB sound like they will suit my needs just fine. I'm replacing all the suspension and steering so every dollar counts!!Originally Posted by KenB
