A pic borrowed from Jon K's post. What is the item that I indicated with an arrow? In an another car I also saw a box on the same location but on the left side.

a kind of shock sensor? isn't the shock sensor (airbag sensor) located under the rear passenger seat?

Default No, there's not a fuse ,its an

impact sensor as shown here... the metal roller on impact rolls forward and makes or breaks the contact shown here which triggers the airbag .. short version anyway.

Are we talking about the box or the casing with a wire coming out of each end?

Default The box is the sensor itself, the casing with the wire

coming out of each end is strictly the connector for it.

its not "kind of" a shock sensor...it IS a crash sensor. If you run into something or something runs into you...and as Bill R described...there is enough force to cause the roller to move forward and make contact...or if it breaks...it will deploy the airbag. That's why there is one on each side of the engine bay.
