Whew!! Thank you--- its been driving me nuts for a while now,,,trying to figure what that thing was for. I thought maybe a vent for the trunk, or something to do with rear window defrost(tho the opening is pointed the wrong way.)

Well, shee-it! Its the most obvious thing, a holder for the center lap belt.
