wish I could advise... but I'm planning on checking my bolts tonight.
it could be that your chain is stretched out.... it happens on motorcycles...
I dropped the lower oil pan today to check the oil pump bolts, and 1 bolt that holds the pump to the block was sitting in the pan and 2 bolts that hold the oil pump together were also in the pan.
well my question is after replacing the bolts there is a lot of play (more than a half inch) in the pump chain and I need to know how to adjust it. I need help asap.

Are you also suppose to drop the upper pan too? Is there "other" bolts to check there?

I cant seem to find where the chain adjustment socket is in that diagram.
Is it accessible from only removing the lower oil pan?
See picture. The hex nut is at the base of the pump below the bolt (or above it with the engine right side up).Originally Posted by dt8068

Thank you for the diagram and pictures, I finally was able tighten the pump chain and I went for a drive afterwards and everything seemed fine.
The oil pump bolts should definitely be checked especially the ones on the pump body as all of mine were pretty loose.
doing mine now (oil pan sitting under car on drive way)
one bolt from the pump had fallen out into the pan.... I'll probably take all the oil pump bolts out that I can and loctite them back in.
haven't been able to check to see if the pump bolts are loose yet.
dt8068.. did you take the pump chain off? or just tighten around it?

oh yeah... I'm clearly missing the chain cover thing.... and I've got the newer style gasket, so I'll bet someone has done this before

I was missing my chain cover also and I left the chain on for tightening all the bolts and adjusting the chain tension. Also locktited all the bolts.
