    Default Washing the engine

Did a complete engine wash, took me quite a few hours but the result was just amazing. Now I know this isn't clean by many of your standards (didn't use the toothbrush), judging by the chicago meet pics, but you should've seen what it was like before. I wish I'd remembered to take a pic before.

Anyway, how do you clean the coolant stained plastic parts? I scrubbed and scrubbed but it didn't do the trick. In the end I just used cockpit shine on them, but there are still nasty white spots left.

The intake manifold and valve cover are a bit stained too, does anything other than sandblasting help here?

Most of the painted metal surfaces are covered in this weird yellow residue. Almost like some kind of wax or really bad clearcoat, any tips on how to remove it?

    Pics here and here

im currently cleaning all of my engine aprts while its diassembled. i have found that dishwasher soap, water, and steal wool work wonders to remove stains and blemishes...use the steel wool as you would use a sponge...make sure you get all of the soap off as well.

Cosmolene can be removed with bead blasting, a good wire brush/scotch brite pad, and/or brake clean. Sometimes takes a bit of elbow grease.

Nice job on the engine bay!
