    Default Auto Trans fluid...

Quick question.... Should you check the auto transmission fluid level when the car is running, or when it is not, hot/cold etc???
I know in previous cars the level should be checked while the engine is idling.
    Thanks

Generally running in park, warmed up after a reasonable drive, flat surface. Sometimes dipsticks have a hot and cold level mark to make the job easier. Some e34 trannies have a specific procedure away from this norm, just check your manual for that.

the pan should be hot, not too hot tho...if you can hold your hand on it and its uncomfortable thats the right temp. Running, level, go through all the gears and then put in park all while idling. Use the correct fluid.
